This Lake Wylie Racing Series is governed by the 2005-2008 Yacht Racing Rules of Sailing.

It is the responsibility of the each boat owner and its skipper to understand the rules and abide by them. If any rules are broken, any yacht in the fleet may protest the infringing yacht. All Protests must be in writing and submitted to the Fleet Captain within 24 hours of the incident. The Fleet Captain and a panel of at least three boat owners/skippers in the fleet will hear all protests. If there is any damage or injury caused by this rule infringement, it is the sole responsibility of the owner of the boat, which broke the rule to cover all medical and repair expenses. It is required that each boat have liability insurance for their boat when racing.

Catawba Yacht Club or the Race Committee/organizer are not responsible for any damages or injuries resulting from any rule infringement or weather related incident during any of the Racing events. It is the responsibility of each boat's owner/skipper to retire from the event if they feel that the weather conditions are too bad for the boats or the boat crew's capabilities. All children under 10 years of age are required to wear a Coast Guard approved lifejacket anytime they are racing in this series.
