Registration

Early Bird Special: $80.00 includes registration fees (Club, J/22 Fleet), crew dinner tickets, beverages.

Bare Bones Early Bird: $50.00 includes registration fees (Club, J/22 Fleet).

Day of, Full Course: $90.00 includes registration fees (Club, J/22 Fleet), crew dinner tickets, and beverages

Day of, Bare Bones: $55.00 includes registration fees (Club, J/22 Fleet)

Additional dinner tickets: $13.00 adults, $3.00 children (includes beverages)

US Sailing Members: deduct $5.00 from each package except for the additional dinners.

Racing Information:  Our goal is to have 4 races on Saturday and 2-3 races on Sunday.  If more than 5 races are run, we will throw out the worst race score for each boat.  The races will be run in compliance with the US of Racing Rules of Sailing 2001-2004 and the INTERNATIONAL J/22 CLASS ASSOCIATION CLASS RULES  and the local club rules.  There will be no measurement or weigh-in.

Responsibilities: The race manager is Larry Jordan. The PRO is Ron Wright.

Checkin: You may checkin on Friday night or Saturday morning before the skippers meeting. Please see Ron Wright at the clubhouse for checkin.

Launching Information:  We had our two launching ramps extended by 25 in 2000, making them the longest and deepest ramps on Lake Wylie. You will be able to launch regardless of lake level. We also have long towing straps available that you can use if your towing vehicle is low on the back. Finally, we have trucks available that have high tow bars; we will use those trucks if you need help. The ramps work fine for both roll-off and float-off trailers.

Mooring:  We should have enough open slips and space on the mooring docks for you to leave your boat moored overnight.

Directions:  The Catawba Yacht Club is located on Lake Wylie southwest of Charlotte, NC.  Click on Where We Are in the left navigation bar for detailed directions and maps. The directions are sumarized below.

From southeast of Charlotte (towards Columbia, SC) take I-77and turn west at the Hwy 160 (Ft. Mill) exit.  Continue west on 160 through the intersection with Gold Hill Road (Tega Kay).  Turn Left on Zoar Rd (Evans Tire Store). Turn left on Youngblood. When Youngblood forks, bear left (West) and continue to the club. The club is behind a chain link fence at the end of of Youngblood Road West road.

From south of Charlotte (towards Atlanta/Greenville) take I-85 North, exit south onto Hwy 161 (Kings Mtn exit - NOT THE KINGS MTN MILITARY PARK EXIT).  Travel about 8 miles south on Hwy 161.  Turn left onto Hwy 55 (McGills General Store).   Follow Hwy 55 through Clover and out the other side.  Turn left on Hwy 557 at the AMOCO station.  If you pass Clover HS, you went too far.  Hwy 557 goes about 8 more miles and turns into Hwy 49.  Hwy 49 crosses Lake Wylie.  Watch for Youngblood Rd.  It is about 1 mile after the bridge.  Turn right on Youngblood.  When Youngblood forks, bear left (West) to the club. 

If you are an interstate groupie and are coming north o I-85, you can skip the Hwy 161 exit and stay on I-85 all the way to I-77. Go south on I-77 and take the Gold Hill Road exit. Go right on Hwy 161 Turn Left on Zoar Rd (Evans Tire Store). Turn left on Youngblood. When Youngblood forks, bear left (West) and continue to the club. The club is behind a chain link fence at the end of of Youngblood Road West road.

Camping/Lodging:  Camping is available at Catawba Yacht Club on a first come first serve basis. There are several camping areas. You can hang a right after going through the Club gate and go up the hill. You can also walk West past the clubhouse towards the end of the peninsula.  We have a commercial grade kitchen and first-class shower facilities. Campfires are prohibited, but there are plenty of charcoal grills and picnic tables. If you plan to camp at CYC Friday night, please let us know in advance.

Hotels:  Hotels are also in abundance.  The closest location to us is at the intersection of Carowinds Blvd and I-77 near the Carowinds recreation park. A Holiday Inn Express (704-537-6611), Comfort Inn (704-339-0574), and a Motel 6 (704-545-0306) are at that location. These hotels are less than fifteen minutes from our club.  The rates go from $60.00 (Motel 6) to $110.00 a night. We can give you directions when you drop off your boat at the club.
