To Build or Not to Build
You can buy boats that were assembled by others or you can assemble your own boat. The difference in price is approximayely a factor of two -- you will pay double to get one that is assembled. The time it will take you to assemble a boat is 20-40 hours, depending on your skill and the model you buy.
Type of Boat
You can buy R/C models of all types and sizes. CYC has just about standardized on 1 meter boats (39.37 inches). We have just about standardized on the Soling 1 Meter as well although there are members with several Americas Cup models. Scott Davis and Harry Ingle have Americas Cup designs.
Sources of Boats
You can buy assembled or unassembled boats from local stores or from the Internet. Action Hobbies in Pineville has at least one assembled boat and they sell unassembled kits as well. Victor Models at the following URL have excellent and reasonably-priced assembled and unassembled models: http://www.victor-model.com
Radio Channels
Be sure to select a radio channel that is not currently in use at CYC when you buy or order a boat and radio. Try to have at least one channel number between your radio and other CYC radio channels that are in use. Click here to get the channels that are in use at the Club now.
