CYC Race Sequence for the Principal Racing Officer (PRO) The races will be run in compliance with the US Sailing Rules of Racing 2001-2004. At the finish of the Skipper' Meeting, immediately take the committee boat out to the starboard end of the Starting Line. Attach the committee boat to the starboard-end buoy or drop anchor in line with the starting line. The committee boat must be attached to the starboard-end buoy before the first boat approaches the finish line at the end of each race. Remember that visual signals override audible signals in the steps below. Be sure to display on the whiteboard the race course selection prior to the execution of the Race Sart Procedure shown below. Race Start Procedure After giving the skippers reasonable time to get out of the CYC cove and as close as possible to the start time given in the Skippers' Meeting, use the flag and horn sequence to start the race as shown in the Race Instructions. Over Early If one or more boats are over early, comply with rules as stated in the Racing Instructions. Normal Start and Finish Start the stop watch at the start of the race and not when the first boat finishes Record the real times for the finishes of PHRF boats -- not subtraction factors. Do not stop the stopwatch until all boats have completed the race or the race is terminated. Record the finish time (PHRF) or position (non-PHRF) for each sailboat and yell "over" to the skipper as a courtesy. You may turn on the main auxillary power switch in battery compartment and use the boat horn to indicate the finish of each boat. Light Wind Cancellation Races may be canceled in accordance with ISAF Rule 32 and as stated in the Racing Instructions. First Boat to Finish Blow one long blast on the horn when the first boat crosses the finish line. If boats are still racing on the course 15 minutes later, blow one long blast on the horn to indicate the end of the race. Late Finishers If any boats are more than 15 minutes behind the first boat to finish, start the sequence for the next race. The late boats will be given a Did Not Finish (DNF) for the race. Last Race of the Day Do not start a race after an elapsed time of 2 hours and 15 minutes from the beginning of the first race of the day. Shorten the last race if you feel that boats will not finish within a reasonable time based on the starting time and wind conditions. Reporting Results Report race results of the formal races to Bill Wiggins or Tom Martin as soon as possible after the last formal race is completed for the day. |
