Usage Restrictions The CYC Whaler is available for use during Club functions. You have to be a member of the Catawba Yacht Club to checkout and use the CYC Whaler. A member of CYC must be onboard at all times when the boat is in operation. The person who checked out the boat for use is responsible for ensuring the safe and proper operation of the boat. Training and Experience You should have either completed a Power Squadron or State Boating Safety Course or be an experienced power boater who understands how to operate outboard watercraft. Checkout You must checkout the CYC Whaler for use from John Zinkievich. If you have not checked out the boat for use during the past 12 months, you must go through a checkout procedure with John prior to using the boat. Waiver Form You must complete and sign a CYC Whaler Waiver form before you can checkout and use the boat. A new waiver must be completed and signed each calendar year. When the boat is not scheduled for support of these programs, CYC members can checkout and use the boat for other Club-related activities. CYC members can schedule the CYC Whaler for non-rowing and non-sailing events no more than four weeks in advance. Refueling When you finish your operation of the CYC Whaler, you must return it to the Club with a full tank of 87 octane gasoline. The engine is two cycle and requires mixing of oil with the fuel in 50:1 ratio. You may turn in receipts to the Club Treasurer for reimbursement for fuel used in support of Club activities. Compliance With Laws The CYC Whaler must be operated in compliance with Federal and state laws at all times. Since Lake Wylie is within the boundaries of both North Carolina and South Carolina, the CYC Whaler must be operated in compliance with the laws of both states. Operation The Whaler is a necessary part of the sailing and rowing programs. CYC members are encouraged to abide by the posted operations instructions to ensure a long, repair-ree life for this asset.
